I love when students realize their gifts as artist can become treasured gifts for those they love. This artist created a beautiful work of art for her grandmother. She wanted a "cheerful" painting for her.
You see, her grandmother lives in a nursing home.
This lovely artist wanted her grandmother to have something happy to look at on the wall each day.
Isn't the painting lovely?
I know I'd love to wake up to it everyday.
There is something so special when students are working on something of meaning for a loved one. You can certainly feel the presence of the other person in the room, as you know the student is thinking of them throughout the class while they are working on the piece.
Each paint stroke, color choice, and pencil mark is made mindful of bringing joy to someone else.
Usually I get to hear stories about the person they are creating for too.
There is an excitement as the work is finished and the artist envisions the reaction of the person when they open the gift.
There is a sense of pride of being able to create something worthy of giving to another and not needing to rely on their parent's wallet to go to the store.
And of course, their is the priceless nature of the gift. The knowledge that no amount of money in the world could find a store bought gift that compares.
A painting from the heart for a grandmother in a nursing home.
What a lovely birthday present.
