For the inaugural class, we focused on practicing one point perspective. I put out many different types of drawing tools, but by far the favorite was the very thick charcoal and the colored sticks.
Each child has their own large pad of newsprint and we started off the hour just doing some warm up exercises. We made continuous line drawings of the now extinct Canadian penny, textured line drawings of feathers, and recreated a pencil eraser by just blocking in the tones.
Then each child tried their hand at a one point sketch. We started with a basic landscape design and finished with applying those skills to a cityscape.
The students ranged in age from 8-10 years old and I was impressed with how quickly they caught on to the concepts presented.
Each student left with a small sketchbook with the encouragement to find 5 minutes a day to make a sketch- nothing fancy- it could be a fork while they wait for dinner, a quick doodle before school or bed, or a favorite toy.
practice. practice. practice.
I can't wait to see what they bring back next Friday!
I'm quite excited about moving forward with this new class concept focused solely on developing drawing skills.
There are still five spots left in this class if you are interested. Register through KudzuStudio.com
